On Tuesday, 15 September, the Cabinet of Ministers, taking into account expert advice and the latest research data, decided to shorten the self-isolation period required upon entering Latvia from abroad to 10 days instead of the previous 14 days.

By making amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 360 for the containment of the spread of Covid-19 infection, the government has created the opportunity for the population to return to their daily routine sooner, if they have arrived to Latvia from countries where the prevalence of Covid-19 poses a serious threat to society. These amendments do not apply to cases where home quarantine is required, for which the period remains at 14 days.

For additional safety, medical staff, social care, and social rehabilitation staff; educational staff; and kindergarten staff who are in close daily contact with their respective patients, clients, or children will only be allowed to observe the shorter, ten-day self-isolation period after leaving a so-called red country if they test negative for Covid-19 on the eighth day after their return. If the worker does not get tested, he/she must observe the full 14-day self-isolation.

The amendments approved by the Cabinet of Ministers will come into force on 17 September and will also apply to persons who are already observing self-isolation at that time.
