On Friday 9 December, the Cabinet of Ministers will host a meeting of Prime Ministers of the Baltic Council of Ministers, with participation of Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas and Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė.
The Baltic Prime Ministers will discuss further support to Ukraine through both international organisations and bilateral assistance, as well as the reception of Ukrainian refugees. The leaders will also address the prosecution of Russia and the development of the next EU sanctions. The leaders will continue their efforts to strengthen NATO’s presence in our region, with particular attention to the implementation of the decisions of the NATO Madrid Summit. Regional cooperation in the energy sector and the implementation of the Rail Baltica project will also be on the agenda.
The Baltic Council of Ministers (BCM), established on 13 June 1994, is an institution for governmental co-operation between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The meeting of the Heads of Government, which takes place at least once a year. is the highest decision-making body of the Baltic Council of Ministers This year, Latvia holds the presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers and previous presidency was in 2019.
