During a working visit to Kyiv on Monday, 24 August, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs was presented with a Ukrainian state award – the Order of Merit, 1st Class – by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in recognition of Latvia’s significant support for Ukraine.
“I regard this prestigious Ukrainian state award as a testament to the Latvian people’s unwavering support for Ukraine. It is an honour not for me personally, but for Latvia as a whole and for our people, who have stood by Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion and continue to support it by donating funds, vehicles, various types of equipment, clothing, food and other essential goods. We understand very well that Ukraine’s fight is also a fight for Europe’s security, freedom and our shared values. That is why Latvia will continue to stand by Ukraine, providing every form of support for as long as necessary,” says the Prime Minister.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also presented state awards for support to Ukraine to the Presidents of Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova and Finland, the President of the European Council, as well as the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Luxembourg.
On 23–24 August, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs paid a working visit to Ukraine, during which he took part in events marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, delivered a speech at the official ceremony marking Ukraine’s National Flag Day, met with leaders of Ukraine and other countries, and represented Latvia at meetings of the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8) and the Coalition of the Willing.
