This Friday, February 4, meeting of the Prime Ministers’ Council of the Baltic Council of Ministers (BCM) is set to take place at the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia. During the meeting, the Prime Minister of Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš, the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas, and the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė will discuss regional security and infrastructure developments among other topics.

The Baltic Prime Ministers are planning to discuss security situation in Europe, including the current situation on the external boarder of the European Union (EU) with Belarus and the Russian military build-up near Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity of close coordination amongst the allies within the EU and NATO.

Furthermore, the Prime Ministers will discuss the progress of regional infrastructure projects, including Rail Baltica and the green transition. An emphasis will also be put on energy politics, considering the rising prices of energy resources and geopolitics. Baltic Prime Ministers will also touch upon measures for controlling the spread of Covid-19.

The Baltic Council of Ministers (BCM), established on 13 June 1994, is an institution for governmental co-operation between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The Baltic Council of Ministers is charged with ensuring the continuity of co-operation at the executive level of the states. The presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers is rotated annually among the Baltic States. In 2022, Latvia holds the presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers and this meeting will be the first of this year.


Important information for media representatives!

To attend media opportunities, media are required to obtain special accreditation for each media representative.

Media events are open to accredited media only if they can present a valid certificate verifying that they have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or have recovered from the virus. A passport or ID card must be presented along with the certificate. Accredited media representatives attending in-person media events are required to wear an FFP2 respirator.

The joint press conference of the Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė will be accessible exclusively online, there will be NO in-person media opportunities. Accredited media representatives will receive a ZOOM link for the press conference and a participation guide.

The accreditation form needs to be filled and submitted until 5PM on February 2, 2022. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be processed.

Accredited media representatives participating in in-person media opportunities are required to respect business attire etiquette.
