On Wednesday, January 13, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma held a meeting with Ambassador of Greece to Latvia George Chatzimichelakis during his farewell visit.

The focus of the meeting was on the good relations with Greece, by highlighting the growth of trade volume, as well as good traditions of cultural exchanges and cooperation in the field of education.

The two sides also discussed the challenges posed by migration in Europe. L.Straujuma stressed that it is necessary to strengthen the EU's migration policy and give more attention to protection of EU's external borders, return of economic refugees and the EU’s cooperation with third countries.

Discussing the EU’s loan program for Greece, the Prime Minister noted that it is important for Greece to continue the implementation of the reform package, and we in the European Union "look forward to successful and timely completed policy implementation issues, which are included in the Memorandum of Understanding”.
