Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš will pay a visit to Minsk - the capital city of Belarus, on Thursday 16 January, to meet with the country's senior officials and participate in a meeting on the organisation of the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2021.

“Latvia is interested in maintaining good neighbourly relations and closer economic cooperation with Belarus. The Ice Hockey World Championship, organised jointly by Latvia and Belarus in 2021, is a good opportunity to strengthen relations between the countries,” said K. Kariņš.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will meet with Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus and Prime Minister Sergei Roumas to discuss bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of environmental protection, transport and logistics, as well as current situation in the region.

The developments relating to preparations for the championship will be discussed in the meeting on the organisation of the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2021.
