Addressing the European Union finance ministers attending the informal meeting of the EU Finance Ministers in Riga on 24 April, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, stressed the need for the European economy to resume the path of dynamic and sustainable growth fast.
On 23 April, the EU Heads of State and Government met in Brussels at the emergency European Council, where they agreed on joint action to prevent the massive losses of refugees' lives and to provide support to Member States having to cope with the stream of refugees.
