On Friday, January 16, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma in Brussels met one of the largest European social partners – the organization BUSSINESSEUROPE, including also the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the priorities of Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Emma Marcegaglia, President of BUSSINESSEUROPE positively assessed the priorities set by Latvia. “Both competitive Europe, digital Europe, as well as strengthening the global role of Europe are the issues in which we – the employers and business world, take interest,” said E. Marcegaglia.
Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma said that an active dialogue of politicians and diplomats with the social partners is crucial to implementing these ambitious priorities. In order to further sustain it, she extended an invitation to BUSSINESSEUROPE to participate in informal debates of the High-Level Working Group on Competitiveness and Growth on February 11, 2015, in an informal meeting of the Ministers of Competitiveness on March 26-27 in Rīga, and in the international conference within the framework of “Innovative Business Week” on June 15-17 in Rīga.
