On Tuesday, January 20, a quadripartite memorandum was signed by public administration, NGOs, law enforcement institutions and anti-corruption bodies on drafting a legal framework (draft law) in order to implement, through close cross-sectoral cooperation, a legal protection mechanism for whistle-blowers.


Latvia conveys its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Ukrainian people over the shelling of residential areas in Mariupol on 24 January that resulted in the tragic death of at least ten civilians. Latvia strongly condemns this act of violence.

On Friday, January 23, high-level experts and officials representing the public administration, law enforcement institutions, NGOs, as well as foreign countries, in the discussion on the institutional development of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) welcomed the proposals developed by the working group headed by the State Chancellery, which provide for indivisibility of the authority andstrengthening of independence and responsibility.

On Friday, January 16, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma in Brussels paid a visit to the school of Europe where 3000 pupils are studying, including 109 Latvian children. During the meeting with the school’s management, Laimdota Straujuma expressed gratitude to the school for the opportunity to learn also the Latvian language and literature, and thus to maintain the linkage with the Latvian culture and identity.
