The open recruitment competition for the post of the Chairperson of the Board of the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC) has closed. Santa Purgaile won the competition with the highest score. Her candidature will be directed for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers. The final decision regarding the appointment should be taken by the Saeima.
On August 30th, Latvia has submitted its update report to MONEYVAL – the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism. The technical report includes detailed evidence that the joint efforts of the Latvian government and Parliament, as well as the supervisory authorities, the FIU and law enforcement agencies are yielding tangible results.
On Tuesday, 20 August, Krišjānis Kariņš, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, hosted Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India. Meeting focused on current state of the bilateral relations, cooperation in the international organisations and global affairs.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has invited Jüri Ratas, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Lithuania, to visit Latvia on 23 August. The officials will hold a meeting, as well as attend celebration events.
On Tuesday 16 July, the government approved the funding for the supply of electric passenger trains and equipment for their maintenance, as well as for training of personnel. The government also assessed the impact of this procurement on the general state budget. The funding will be provided also for the development of a train repair centre.
At the conclusion of the working visit to the United States, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš notes that the representatives of the US presidential administration and the Congress welcome Latvia’s progress in strengthening both national defence capabilities and improvement of the business and investment environment.
On July 9 and 10, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš met with high-ranking U.S. officials in Washington and discussed Latvia-United States bilateral relations, U.S. support for Latvia's security, as well as transatlantic cooperation and international security, the strengthening of the financial sector’s supervision and investment opportunities, acknowledging that the United States is Latvia's strategic partner and a close ally.
On Friday 12 July, the State Chancellery will launch an open competition for the post of Chairman of the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC). Applicants are encouraged to apply before 12 August.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft regulation regarding the selection of candidates for the post of Chairman of the Financial and Capital Market Commission’s (FCMC) Council on 9 July.
Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš will leave for a working visit to the United States from 8 to 15 July. The Prime Minister will meet with representatives of the US presidential administration and Congress, will have discussions with entrepreneurs, representatives of think-tanks and give interviews to the mass media within the framework of the visit. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with representatives of the Latvian diaspora in New York and Washington.
