The main objective of the European Economic and Social Committee is representation of a wide range of social and economic interests in the EU, including employers, employees, people with special needs, producers, transport companies, consumers, etc. The Committee is an advisory body – in certain cases stipulated in EU treaties the Council of the EU and the Commission are obliged to consult with the Committee, though in a number of issues such consultations are voluntary acts of the Council of the EU, Commission and Parliament.
