On Monday, January 18, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia David Usupashvili paid a visit to Latvia, and in the Cabinet of Ministers met Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma. During discussion with D.Usupashvili L.Straujuma emphasized that Latvia will further support Georgia in its reform processes and welcomes the progress towards strengthening Georgia as a safe, democratic and developed state. "We are and will remain friends of Georgia!" – said L.Straujuma.

The Prime Minister supported the speedy conclusion of negotiations to ensure that a visa-free regime between the EU and Georgia enters into force as soon as possible

She also welcomed the expansion of economic relations between the two countries. D. Usupashvili stressed that the volume of Latvian investments in Georgia has increased and he calls on the Latvian entrepreneurs to continue investing in his country. The two parties agreed on the need to continue expanding contacts in education and public administration. Director of the State Chancellery Mārtiņš Krieviņš was also present in discussion and emphasized the readiness to further share Latvia's experience in reforms and development of the public administration with Georgia, and appreciated the achievements of Georgia so far.
