On Thursday, July 5, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, during the farewell visit of Judith Garber, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, expressed gratitude for her contribution to strengthening the USA - Latvia relationship and acknowledged that the three years since J.Garber has been representing the USA in Latvia have been very fruitful in improving both, political and economic cooperation between the two countries. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that this positive dynamics will continue also in the future, providing benefits for both countries.
J.Garber did not hide her satisfaction that, at the time when she transfers her duties to the next U.S. Ambassador, the USA - Latvia relationship is very good. In the political dimension it was reflected by the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a delegation of the U.S. Congress, while in the economic area – by the visit of a delegation of the U.S. entrepreneurs to Latvia. Looking back on the visit of the U.S. entrepreneurs, the Ambassador informed that a number of U.S. companies found new partners during the visit and will work on the implementation of specific cooperation projects. The Ambassador also mentioned that Latvia currently has a good international image, which increases interest also in economic cooperation.
The U.S. Ambassador thanked Latvia for its support to common objectives of the two countries in NATO. The Ambassador emphasized that the support of Latvia to the USA in matters related with Afghanistan, Iraq and other issues has been very significant and expressed her satisfaction over the fact that Latvia managed to maintain it also during the crisis, while V.Dombrovskis confirmed Latvia's commitment to proceed with the approved strategy to increase investment for defence, thereby improving both, the defence capability of the Latvian Armed Forces and Latvia's contribution to collective security.
