On Friday, February 17, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis during the conversation with Ambassador of Canada to Latvia John Morrison emphasized that productive economic cooperation and investment attraction are important factors in promoting relations of the two countries.
The parties agreed that the countries should promote active cooperation in the investment area and expressed satisfaction over the upcoming visit of representatives of Latvian timber industry in Vancouver to be held in March this year.
During the conversation with the Ambassador, the Prime Minister informed that reduction of the budget deficit and stable economic growth is one of the priorities of national development of Latvia and this year the growth of 2.5% is expected, which is a positive signal also for investment attraction. The Prime Minister also confirmed Latvia's readiness to attain its objective and joint the euro area in 2014.

Indicators of trade between Latvia and Canada: In Q3 2011, the trade turnover of Latvia and Canada amounted to EUR 11.57 million, ranking Canada the 51st among the foreign trade partners of Latvia. The export has increased by 35.87% as compared with 2010, while import has decreased by 92.62%, which can be explained by airBaltic's purchase of eight Bombardier airplanes in 2010. The main export goods of Latvia are machines and mechanisms, food products, chemicals and allied products.
