From July 8th until 13th, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis will pay a working visit to Brazil. The visit is aimed at promoting political dialogue and developing closer cooperation of the business sector of Latvia and Brazil.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will be accompanied by a delegation of Latvia`s entrepreneurs representing 7 companies. The sector of transport and logistics will be represented by the Freeport of Riga and Ventspils Free Port Authority, bio-ethanol production by “Jaunpagasts Plus” Ltd., the food sector by LSEZ “Kolumbija” Ltd., the legal services sector by the Sworn Advocates’ Office “BDO Zelmenis&Liberte”, financial services by the joint-stock company “Rietumu banka”, information technology by the joint-stock company “SAF Tehnika”.
On Saturday, July 9, in Rio de Janeiro, the Prime Minister and the entrepreneurs’ delegation will visit the Port of Rio de Janeiro to discuss the opportunities for development of cooperation in the area of logistics. The Prime Minister will also meet Brazilians of Latvian descent, who are involved in entrepreneurship.
On Sunday, July 10, in Nova Odessa, V.Dombrovskis will meet City Mayor Manoel Samartin, visit the Latvian church ”Fazenda Velha” and meet representatives of the organization of Latvian Brazilians.
On Monday, July 11, the Prime Minister will meet Mayor of São Paulo Geraldo Jose Rodrigues Alckmin Fliho. The Prime Minister and the entrepreneurs’ delegation will participate in the Brazilian-Latvian Business Forum II organized by the Commerce and Industry Federation of São Paulo (FIESP). More than 50 Brazilian entrepreneurs will participate in the business forum. The Prime Minister will present the book”How Latvia Came through the Financial Crisis” written in cooperation with internationally recognized economist Anders Åslund. Prime minister will also meet Brazilian enterprises to discuss possibilities of cooperation in the sphere of transit and logistics using Latvia`s ports.
Within the framework of the business forum, the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) will sign the Memorandum of Understanding on Closer Cooperation with the Commerce and Industry Federation of São Paulo.
In the afternoon, V. Dombrovskis and the entrepreneurs’ delegation will visit the Port of Santos, where the Freeport of Riga and the Port of Santos will sign the Memorandum of Understanding.
At the end of the day, the Prime Minister will give an interview to one of the largest newspapers in São Paulo – “Folha de S São Paulo”.
On Tuesday, July 12, in the capital city of Brazil, V.Dombrovskis will meet Vice President of Brazil Michel Temer, President of the Senate of Brazil Jose Sarney de Araujo Costa, Finance Minister Guido Mantega, Minister of Transport Alfredo Nascimento, and Minister for Ports Leonidas Cristiano and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ruy Nogueira.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will give an interview to the Brazilian newspaper “O Globo”.
At the end of the day, V. Dombrovskis will visit the Swedish Embassy in Brazil, where he will meet Brazilian entrepreneurs and present the book “How Latvia Came through the Financial Crisis” written in cooperation with internationally recognized economist Anders Åslund.
