On Friday, June 10, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and the delegation of Latvian entrepreneurs in Seoul – the capital city of South Korea, met the four largest Economic Associations of South Korea – the Federation of Korean Industries, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business to discuss strengthening of economic cooperation between companies of the two countries.

“The Korean enterprises have already positively assessed the convenient geographical location of Latvia and access to Western and Eastern markets, the attractive investment environment, as well as qualitative and competitive labour force. However, I am convinced that there’s even greater potential for cooperation between Latvia and Korea. Also the investment environment in Latvia continues to improve – in the study “Doing Business” by the World Bank Latvia ranked the 24th in 2011, but our objective is to be among the best 20 countries of the world by 2013 and to join the Eurozone in 2014. Latvia is becoming more and more attractive for investments and I call on the Korean entrepreneurs to make use of it”, said V.Dombrovskis in his address to entrepreneurs.

Today, the Prime Minister and the Latvian entrepreneurs visited the company “Samsung Electronics”. The Latvian delegation also participated in the reception hosted by the Honorary Consul General of Latvia in Korea, where V.Dombrovskis presented the Order of the Three Stars to the former Ambassador of Korea to Latvia Cho Hee-yong for his contribution to promotion of relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister presented the Letter of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers to the Honorary Consul General of Latvia in Korea Kwon Kyung-hoon for active and successful representation of Latvia’s interests in Korea.

Tomorrow, on June11, the Latvian delegation will leave for a working visit to Hong Kong, where the Prime Minister will meet the officials and entrepreneurs of the Administrative Region of Hong Kong. The Prime Minister will also deliver a lecture at the University of Hong Kong, meet the representatives of the Latvian community and participate in the premiere of the movie Amaya, co-produced by Latvia-Korea.
