At the invitation of Prime Minister of Estonia, Andrus Ansip, on Friday, December 31, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and his spouse will leave for the New Year’s Eve celebration in Tallinn, at the same time celebrating Estonia’s accession to the Eurozone countries on January 1, 2011.
The celebration will be held in the Estonia Concert Hall. It will be opened by the Estonian National Opera Orchestra performing the opening waltz conducted by Arvo Volmer. The guests will be entertained by George Gershwin’s Rhapsody performed by Benin-born jazz star Mina Agossi. French Jazz Journal ”Le Jazz Hot” has characterized her as a bearer of new traditions in the 21st century whose voice breaks the idea of musical boundaries and cultural identities. Agossi is one of the most outstanding French jazz artists, along with Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall.
The event program also includes the Cabaret Dance Programme staged by the Dance Factory, a performance by the Estonian Police and Border Guard Orchestras' Big Band, as well as the ballet performance “Who Cares?” by the famous Russian choreographer George Balanchine and music by George Gershwin. In 1937 the legendary author of the music, Gershwin called on the famous choreographer George Balanchine to cooperate in the creation of “Goldwyn Follies” but the composer died before it was accomplished. Thirty-three years later Balanchine staged the ballet ”Who Cares?” including 16 songs by Gershwin and such hits as ”I Got Rhythm”, ”The Man I Love” etc.
Prime Minister V.Dombrovskis and his spouse will return to Latvia on Saturday, January 1. During the absence of V.Dombrovskis, Minister for Economics, Artis Kampars will fulfil the duties of the Prime Minister.
