On Wednesday, December 15, in Rīga, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, who is paying one-day official visit to Latvia. Within the framework of the meeting, both parties agreed on the necessity to promote the cooperation between the two countries in economics and trade and discussed the development of transit and trade opportunities.
The officials noted the good bilateral relations and agreed to continue the political dialogue. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis extended an invitation for the visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov to Latvia next year and acknowledged the Latvian-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Committee to be an effective instrument for promotion and coordination of cooperation.
The Prime Minister of Latvia and the President of Ukraine discussed the relations of Ukraine and the EU. The Prime Minister expressed his support to the endeavours of Ukraine to integrate in the EU and readiness to promote and support the EU decisions aimed at intensified cooperation between the EU and Ukraine also in the future. Both parties noted, in particular, the importance of the progress in negotiations on the extended Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Ukraine for promotion of economic growth.
Within the framework of the meeting, President of Ukraine V.Yanukovich informed about the reform plans in Ukraine to stabilize the economic situation.
