This will be the first official visit of German Chancellor, A.Merkel to Latvia. The German Chancellor has paid a visit to Latvia within the framework of the NATO summit in November 2006. In June 2000, Chancellor of the Federal Germany, Gerhard Schröder paid a working visit to Latvia and in January 1998 German Chancellor H.Kohl visited Latvia within the framework of the meeting of the Heads of Government of the Baltic Sea countries
