On Thursday, August 26, in Rīga, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met Ambassador of Ireland to Latvia, Brendan McMahon within the framework of his farewell visit. During the meeting the sides discussed the economic situation in Latvia and Ireland. Both officials admitted that the Latvian and Ireland's economic situation has some similarities.
The Prime Minister informed that gradual stabilization of the economy can be observed in Latvia, because the gross domestic product in first two quarters of 2010 show positive trend of increase. In Q2 of 2010, the industrial production has increased by 12.1%, while export by 30.3%. The Ambassador of Ireland to Latvia emphasized that Ireland like Latvia has exited recession period.
Both sides discussed the situation regarding the Latvian community in Ireland and expressed their satisfaction with successful cooperation of both countries’ consular and law enforcement authorities in solving fake marriage problems.
At the conclusion of the visit, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador of Ireland to Latvia for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
