On Monday, May 24, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis gave a speech at the first China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum. In his speech, the Prime Minister mentioned that this forum provides a new way of conducting a dialogue between countries, between parties and the people they represent. V.Dombrovskis emphasized that today China and the European Union are strategic partners. ”I am convinced that the new Lisbon Treaty will enable the EU to play an even more active role in addressing the current global challenges, which cannot be resolved without the active involvement of China”, said V.Dombrovskis.
In his statement the Prime Minister called on China to cooperate with those EU countries which so far have not developed long-term relationship with China. V.Dombrovskis informed about the EU activities in implementation of fundamental structural reforms and promotion of strict budgetary discipline to ensure competitiveness of the EU.
The European parties representing a broad political spectrum, as well as groups of the largest parties of the European Parliament are represented in the forum which is for the first time organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The purpose of the forum is free and open dialogue between the European parties and the Communist Party of China, which will promote mutual understanding and communication opportunities, thus strengthening the EU-China strategic partnership.
Within the framework of the forum, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met Wang Jiarui Director of the International Department of the Central Committee of the PRC.
