On Monday, May 24, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met Hui Liangyu Deputy Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for future cooperation between both countries.
The two officials noted that the bilateral relations of Latvia and China are good and continue to develop dynamically. During the meeting the parties emphasized the cooperation opportunities in the area of transport, transit, culture, education and agriculture. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis informed that from May 24-28 a seminar of the Baltic countries’ working group is being held in Pekin, where the opportunities for agriculture development and promotion of cooperation of the Baltic counties and China are discussed.
Both parties discussed the economic situation in Latvia and China, as well as the impact of the global economic crisis on the development of national economy of both countries.
Hui Liangyu Deputy Prime Minister of China welcomed Latvia’s progress in overcoming the economic crisis and congratulated Latvia’s participation in the international exhibition "World Expo 2010” in Shanghai, that will provide an opportunity to spread Latvia’s name in China and in the world.
Today, the Prime Minister’s participation and address at the first high-level forum of the political parties of China and the European Union is planned.
We have already informed that Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis will pay a visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from May 23-27. Within the framework of the visit he will participate in the opening of Latvia’s exhibition hall at the international exhibition “World Expo 2010” and meet high-level officials of the government and local governments.
