The Prime Minister congratulated José Manuel Barroso and Andris Piebalgs on the approval of the new European Commission

On Wednesday, February 10, Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, sent a letter of congratulations to Andris Piebalgs and José Manuel Barroso concerning the convincing approval of the new European Commission.

The Prime Minister congratulated Andris Piebalgs on his approval in the post of EU Commissioner and José Manuel Barroso – in the post of President of the Commission.

In his letter of congratulations to Andris Piebalgs the Prime Minister stressed that the Latvian Government highly values work of the previous European Commission and expressed special acknowledgement to Andris Piebalgs for his contribution in the area of energy which is a top priority for Latvia. „I am convinced that the new Commission is ready to successfully work in the coming years. And I have no doubts that your experience will help in addressing global challenges by using the EU development policy instruments,” said Valdis Dombrovskis.

In his letter of congratulations to José Manuel Barroso the Prime Minister emphasised that the Latvian Government highly values work of the previous European Commission and expressed special acknowledgement for support of the EC and contribution of the EC President in overcoming the economic and financial crisis of Latvia. „It is a clear witness that solidarity and mutual assistance in extraordinary situations are of decisive importance. I would like to underline that the Latvian Government is committed to continue its active work on achievement of the common EU interests,” noted Dombrovskis. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis is convinced that the new Commission is ready to successfully work in the coming years.

The Latvian Prime Minister wished José Manuel Barroso and Andris Piebalgs successful and productive work.
