On Wednesday, September 16, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis sent a letter of congratulations to Jose Manuel Barroso on the occasion of re-election to the post of the President of the European Commission. V.Dombrovskis considers that J.M. Barroso successfully heads the work of the European Commission at the time when the European Union experiences the deepest economic and financial crisis in the last fifty years. In his letter, the Prime Minister emphasizes that “Latvia recognizes the support of the European Commission with regard to ensuring the government solvency and securing of the international loans”.
“The greatest challenge of the next Commission will be to renew economic growth in EU and to strengthen its long-term competitiveness. In order to achieve this, the social and economic gaps between older and news Member States have to be reduced. The European Commission will remain the driving force in shaping the common agenda of the European Union,” says V.Dombrovskis in his letter.
