On Wednesday, April 29, Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, will pay a one-day working visit to Berlin, capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the visit, V.Dombrovskis will meet Angela Markel, Federal Chancellor, Peer Steinbrück, Federal Minister for Finance, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, Federal Minister for Economics and Technology. The Prime Minister will also meet representatives of the German banking sector and visit the airBaltic office in Berlin.
During the meeting with German Chancellor A.Merkel, the officials plan to discuss the bilateral cooperation in politics, culture and particularly in economics. Important discussion topics will be the financial and economic situation in both countries, the energy policy including creation of a common Baltic energy market, the Eastern partnership matters, the cooperation with Russia, the security policy issues, as well as other current European Union and international matters.
A.Merkel is the Federal Chancellor of Germany since 22 November 2005, and currently also leads the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). A.Merkel visited Latvia in 2006 during the NATO Summit in Rīga.
Within the framework of the visit, the Prime Minister will give interviews to German and international media (Handelsblatt GmbH, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitun and Bloomberg News).
