The Prime Minister held a meeting with the President of the European Parliament |
| Today, October 1, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis met Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament (EP) during his official visit to Latvia. This is a second official visit of the EP President to a Member State of the European Union (EU). The first official visit of J.Buzek, after taking the post of the President of the EP, was to Sweden – presiding country of the EU. The President of the EP emphasized that a visit to Latvia is a clear signal of the EU’s solidarity, that Latvia is not alone in its complicated economic situation and can always expect the support of the EU. The President of the EP noted that it is a great pleasure to meet his former colleague of the EP in the position of the Head of the Government of Latvia and expressed gratitude for successful co-operation in course of five years. J.Buzek appreciated the work of the Prime Minister in this very hard situation to the state of Latvia and pointed out that Latvia has grounds for optimism, also because it is a Member State of the EU. |

| On September 10th, 2009 the Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis met with the representatives of foreign mass media. During the meeting Mr. Dombrovskis informed about the key direction in which the government is working – fiscal consolidation, stimulation of the economy and provisions of minimum social security network, as well as answered questions. EBRD Becomes a Shareholder in Parex Banka |
| On September 3, 2009, 25 percent and one share of Parex Banka were transferred from the Latvian Privatisation Agency to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In this initial transaction, the EBRD acquired 51,444,325 ordinary shares. As a part of a future capital increase at Parex Banka, the EBRD plans to purchase further 6,062,500 shares, thus maintaining its stake of 25 percent and one share. |
