Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis will pay a working visit to Slovenia and take part in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council in Brussels

On August 30-31 this year, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, will pay a working visit to the Republic of Slovenia in order to participate in a forum devoted to energy issues and climate changes together with heads of states and governments of other countries. On September 1, Ivars Godmanis will take part in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council in Brussels at which the heads of governments of the EU States will focus on the situation in Georgia.

It is planned that in Slovenia Ivars Godmanis will meet Janez Janša, Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia. After this meeting, on August 31, at 1:30 p.m., a joint press conference of Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis and Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek is planned. After the press conference Ivars Godmanis will participate in the opening of the Bled Strategic Forum and deliver a speech in the leader panel.

The Bled Strategic Forum is a meeting platform for political leaders, experts and business managers of various countries.. This year the forum is organised for the third time and its focus will be on the strategic challenges related to energy safety and climate changes at the regional and global level. An important agenda issue will be the energy corridor of the European Union and the Caspian Sea in the context of recent events in Georgia.

Latvia will be represented in the extraordinary meeting of the European Council on September 1 by Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis and Māris Riekstiņš, Minister for Foreign Affairs. During this meeting the heads of governments of the EU States will discuss the complicated situation in Georgia and further involvement in solving the crisis.
