Today, on August 19, a working meeting of Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, and Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, and Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, took place in Beijing.
During the working meeting, the heads of the governments of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia discussed the economic situation in the Baltic region in whole and individually in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
During the meeting, the prime ministers discussed the issue of the energy cooperation in the Baltic region (energy transmission interconnections among all three Baltic States, the “New Ignalina” in Lithuania; energy transmission interconnections with other countries).
I.Godmanis, G.Kirkilas and A.Ansip also discussed the trade matters of the Baltic States with the People’s Republic of China, as well as the current transit of goods from China.
They also concerned the issues planned on the agenda of the Council of Europe of October, 2008, as well as the positions of the Baltic States with regard to those matters.
