The Prime Minister will participate in the meeting of the European Council

Tomorrow, on June 18, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, will visit Brussels in order to take part in the meeting of the European Council scheduled for June 18-20. The focus of this meeting of the Heads of the European Union States and Governments will be the situation concerning the Lisbon Treaty upon Ireland’s referendum, progress and further moves in the area of fundamental freedoms, security and justice and discussion on the rising prices, as well as a number of economic, social and environment-related issues. Another focus of the meeting will be the policy of external relations and the EU policy with regard to the West Balkans.  

During the visit in Brussels the Latvian Prime Minister will participate in the official session of the European Council on June 19-20. Ivars Godmanis will also take part in several multilateral meetings – a luncheon and meeting of the leaders and ministers of the European Liberals, in the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic States and Nordic countries organised by the Swedish Prime Minister and in the working breakfast of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic States and Visegrad States.
