Today, on April 25, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, held a meeting with Česlovas Juršenas, Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania, during his official visit to Latvia on April 25-26.
The focus of the meeting was development of bilateral cooperation of Latvia and Lithuania and topical issues of the European Union.
The Latvian Prime Minister and the Lithuanian Parliamentary Speaker discussed domestic matters and economic issues of both countries. The officials acknowledged the current intense cooperation of both parliaments, line ministries, local governments and non-governmental organisations.
Special attention was paid to energy issues, cooperation in the area of energy among the countries of the Baltic Sea region, increased energy integration in Europe, including construction of an interconnection between Sweden and the Baltic States which is necessary in order to strengthen energy independence of Latvia and Lithuania.
