Prime Minister and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Latvia discussed closer cooperation

Today, on January 17, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Göran Håkansson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Latvia, during his introductory visit.

The Swedish Ambassador emphasised that Sweden as well as other Scandinavian countries maintain good relations with Latvia and that all countries in the region should closely cooperate.

Ivars Godmanis informed about Latvia’s preparation for the meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States which will take place in summer this year in Latvia, at the same time to which it is planned to organise a conference for business representatives.

The Prime Minister and the Swedish Ambassador discussed closer cooperation in the field of energy. Ivars Godmanis informed about Latvia’s prospects for energy supply. The Head of the Government reaffirmed Latvia’s interest in successful experience of Sweden concerning the use of renewable energy resources, and Göran Håkansson expressed the readiness to promote such experience exchange.
