Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis and the delegation of the Fund of Saint Apostle Andrew Pervozvanny (the First-Called) discussed development of relations of Latvia and Russia

Today, on September 29, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, held a meeting with the delegation of the Fund of Saint Apostle Andrew Pervozvanny (the First-Called) which had brought the holy relics of St. Prince Alexander of the Neva to Latvia.

Vladimir, Metropolitan of Tashkent and Central Asia and the Head of the delegation, delivered greetings from His Holiness Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia which still recalls his visit to Latvia and who blessed this visit of the Fund of Saint Apostle Andrew Pervozvanny to Latvia. Metropolitan Vladimir expressed his gratitude that the Latvian State and Heads of its governments care for the people and spiritual values, and expressed his belief that the Orthodox Church would flourish in Latvia.

The Prime Minister noted that the visit of Patriarch Alexy was a very significant event and contributed to development of relations of Latvia and Russia. Aigars Kalvītis stressed: „Latvia and Russia are counties whose history and culture have much in common. Our people understand and respect each other. We would like to expand cultural, economic and political cooperation.”

The Latvian Prime Minister informed the delegation of the Fund of Saint Apostle Andrew Pervozvanny about the religions represented in Latvia and stressed that the Government has developed close cooperation with all these religions.

Alexander Sokolov, Minister of culture of the Russian Federation, who was also included in the delegation, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit Latvia and informed about the Latvian Culture Days in Moscow next month when it also planned to hold a meeting of the Russian Culture Minister and the Latvian Culture Minister in order to discuss opportunities for closer cultural cooperation.
