Today, on August 3, Prime Minister, Aigars Kalvītis met Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the Republic of Kalmyki of the Russian Federation and the President of the World Chess Federation who pays a visit to Latvia in order to participate in the International Chess Championship in Liepāja.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov introduced the Prime Minister with plans and activities of the World Chess Federation and appealed to the Prime Minister to popularize chess and promote the interest of society, especially young generation, in chess.
The President presented a study book for the first grade on the basic principles of chess and expressed hope that this book will be useful for pupils and will raise prestige of chess also in Latvia which has old chess traditions.
The President of the Republic of Kalmyki invited Prime Minister, Aigars Kalvītis to visit the Republic of Kalmyki.
