The Prime Minister and the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma of Russia discussed opportunities for closer parliamentary cooperation

Today Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Artur Chilingarov, Vice-Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The focus of the discussion was on ratification of the Border Treaty between Latvia and Russia in the parliaments of both countries. The sides discussed the potential ratification process and its possible schedule.

Artur Chilingarov confirmed that the State Duma of Russia is interested in soon ratification of this Border Treaty.

The Latvian Prime Minister and the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma exchanged views concerning strengthening of contacts of the parliaments of both countries, in particular at the level of the Foreign Affairs Committees and with regard to arranging exchange visits of the top officials of the State Duma and the Latvian Parliament.

Artur Chilingarov approved that a delegation of MPs of the Russian State Duma could visit Latvia in some months’ time.

This evening, during his working visit to Russia, Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis is meeting German Gref, Russian Economic Development and Trade Minister.
