Today Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, and Mikhail Fradkov, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, signed the Border Treaty between Latvia and Russia.
Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis expressed his appreciation for this historic moment and noted that the signature of the Border Treaty would clearly mark the border of both countries and open opportunities for more active political and economic dialogue of Latvia and Russia. The Latvian Prime Minister expressed his belief that this Treaty would in no way threaten the state continuity of the Republic of Latvia.
On March 27 Aigars Kalvītis met Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and participated in a working lunch hosted by the Russian Prime Minister.
Further in his visit to Russia, the Latvian Prime Minister will meet Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, German Gref, Russian Economic Development and Trade Minister, and Artur Chilingarov, Vice-Speaker of the State Duma of Russia.
Aigars Kalvītis will meet Alexei Miller, President of company Gazprom, a representative of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (Employers), and participate in a round-table discussion together with the President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jevgeni Primakov.
