The Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly of France discussed closer economic co-operation

Today, Prime Minister, Aigars Kalvītis met Patrick Ollier, President of the National Assembly of France who is paying official visit to Latvia.

The main focus of discussion was on strengthening of economic co-operation between both countries.

The Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly of France were of the same opinion that such cultural events as festival “Surprising Latvia” in France and “French Spring in Latvia” is one way how to promote mutual interest of residents of both countries, as well as economic, political and cultural co-operation.

Aigars Kalvītis underlined the interest of Latvia to enhance co-operation with France in the field of economics, strengthen contacts on the state and local-governmental level and noted that several local-governments of Latvia already co-operate with partners in France. The Head of the Government of Latvia expressed wish for increased investments of France as an industrial state in the industry and production of Latvia in order to promote restoration of production enterprises on the European Union level.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that Latvia would particularly value experience of France in energy sector, particularly in use of nuclear energy for long-term development of economics, which is a topical matter for the Baltic States which plan to build a common nuclear power plant.

Aigars Kalvītis emphasized these two spheres where Latvia would wish closer co-operation, however, did not exclude other matters, for instance, experience exchange with food production companies of France.

Patric Ollier also expressed commitment of France to strengthen economic co-operation of both countries and informed that there are entrepreneurs in the delegation of France to Latvia who plan to visit Jelgava in order to develop co-operation with the local government of the city and entrepreneurs.

The President of the National Assembly of France expressed readiness to personally contribute to contact development with entrepreneurs of France and after returning to France appeal to industrial enterprises to invest more actively in the industry of Latvia.

Aigars Kalvītis and Patric Ollier expressed intention to strengthen co-operation of Latvia and France, to make it more fruitful and structured.
