On December 14 and 15, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, will participate in European Council meeting in Brussels, where the Heads of State and Government of the European Union (EU) will discuss several issues important for development of the EU.
One of the most important items of the agenda will be discussion on further EU enlargement, which will be based on the EU Enlargement Strategy prepared by the European Commission; as well as further course of Turkey’s EU accession negotiations.
The Heads of State and Government will discuss achievements in creating the area of freedom, security and justice: legal and illegal immigration, external border control, enlargement of the Schengen area, as well as improvement of decision making in justice and home affairs.
Continuing the discussions started in Lahti European Council, the participants will discuss innovations, energy issues, climate change and EU external relations.
