On Thursday, October 19, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, is going to Finland, where on October 20 in the Lahti city an informal meeting of heads of state and government of the European Union will take place.
On Friday, the members of the European Council will discuss the two main topics: energy issues and innovations, and will also pay attention to immigration policy. During the meeting a working dinner of EU heads of state and government and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is planned.
As usually, before the European Council meeting there will be a meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic States and Nordic countries of the European Union, during which Aigars Kalvītis together with his colleagues will discuss the positions of the Baltic States, Finland, Denmark and Sweden concerning the agenda of the European Council, paying particular attention to energy issues, which are of particular importance to the region: creation of new energy networks and connections, energy security and promotion of alternative sources of energy supply.
In the evening of October 19 Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis will participate in the meeting of EU heads of governments representing the European People’s Party and will discuss topical EU issues in preparation for the European Council meeting.
