Today, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Vyacheslav Pozgalev, Governor of Vologda Oblast of the Russian Federation, who has come on a visit to Latvia.
During the meeting both sides discussed practical cooperation projects in several areas. The Governor of Vologda Oblast expressed interest in cooperation with Latvian companies in fish processing, cheese production - particularly mentioning the wish to take over the waste-free technologies used by Latvian milk processing companies, in transport and logistics, as well as in tourism sector.
The Governor was interested in expanding cooperation with Latvia as a member state of the European Union, which offers new opportunities. This visit of the Vologda Oblast administration to Latvia is already the third visit during this year with the aim to develop concrete cooperation projects between companies from Latvia and Vologda.
Aigars Kalvītis and Vyacheslav Pozgalev shared the opinion that there are still very many opportunities for closer economic cooperation and stressed that already now Latvian companies are actively operating in Vologda Oblast, and businessmen from Vologda also have businesses in Latvia. The Governor expressed confidence that the individual problems concerning differences in legislation and language barrier in Latvia do not create a serious obstacle for expanding economic contacts.
Vyacheslav Pozgalev informed on the intention of the Oblast to conclude an agreement with the Ministry of Economics of Latvia on closer economic cooperation with Latvia, which could promote economic relations.
