Today, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Michael Hudson, United States professor in international finance and economics, President of the Institute for the Study of Long Term Economic Trends (ISLET) in New York and London.
During the meeting attention was mostly paid to issues of economic development of Latvia, inflation and possibilities to reduce it.
Michael Hudson very positively viewed the high rate of economic growth of Latvia, and introduced his project plan – to develop a model of payment balance of Latvia by gathering statistical data on processes that up to now have been little studied in Latvia.
The US researcher stressed the extensive opportunities of using the data of such an objective study in analysing and planning economic development processes in Latvia.
The Prime Minister was satisfied with the opportunity to discuss economic growth of the country with Michael Hudson, John J.A. Burke - Rector of the Rīga Graduate School of Law, and Jeffrey Sommers - Project Director of the Stockholm School of Economics in Rīga; and expressed the wish to continue the cooperation also in the future.
