Continuing his working visit to Tokyo, today Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met representatives of several important Japanese companies and business associations. The Prime Minister visited the companies Hitachi and Mitsubishi Corporation, as well as Keidanren - the biggest association of industrial enterprises. During these visits Aigars Kalvītis informed Japanese businessmen about Latvias achievements through integration into the European Union (EU) and NATO and development of a competitive economy that ensures favourable business environment not only for European but also Japanese and other Asian businessmen. After accession to the EU Latvia has become part of the 450 million strong consumer market, which offers new opportunities for developing deeper cooperation with Japan, creating joint ventures, and working on investment projects. The Prime Minister stressed the advantages of Latvias geographical location, which allows using Latvia as a transit and logistics centre for deliveries to its Eastern neighbours and countries of the Northern Europe. During the meetings Aigars Kalvītis underlined Latvias interest in developing cooperation in the energy sector, using the technologies of Japanese companies and their extensive experience in this sector. Today, the Prime Minister in Tokyo also met representatives of Japanese tourism companies, in order to discuss interests of the Japanese tourism industry in Europe and the Baltic States, and to provide an insight into opportunities currently offered by Latvia as a tourist-friendly country. Aigars Kalvītis informed about the significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Latvia and about projects that will promote further development of the tourism industry in Latvia.
