From June 26-30, in Liepāja, the 2nd International Summer Public Management Institute will take place, which will be aimed at developing the idea of public management in regions and promoting cooperation among people practically involved in public administration. The event will be organized by the State Chancellery, School of Public Administration and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, in cooperation with the embassies of the United States, Canada, Denmark, Ireland and Finland, with the support of the Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers, and the British Council in Latvia. Organizers of the Summer Institute are inviting ministries and secretariats of ministers for special assignments to delegate by 28 April 1-2 representatives for participation in the 2nd International Summer Public Management Institute. Application forms should be sent by post and electronically to Dace Upīte, Project Coordinator of the State Reforms Division of the State Chancellery (e-mail: Dace.Upite@mk.gov.lv). The working language of the course will be English, participation fee LVL 350 (stay of the participant and costs of organization of the event). The topic of the Summer Institute will be Development of Human Resources as an Important Precondition for Successful Public Administration. Issues such as trends of human resources development, factors influencing them, methods for management of human resources including competency approach, good practice of different countries, and innovative approaches will be discussed. At the course world-acknowledged academics and experts in the area of human resources will participate - Gabriel Vigo, Dr. Dennis L. Dresang, Juha Rumpunen, Tony Bass, Flemming Christiansen, Sean Gaffny. There will be lectures, presentations of good practice, practical analysis, discussions on topical issues of human resource development. The event is aimed at medium and high-level heads of public administration, policy-makers in the area of human resources, as well as specialists of human resource development. It is planned that in the Summer Institute 60 representatives of public administration will participate from Latvia and other countries: Estonia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Macedonia, Hungary, Uzbekistan and Turkey.
