On March 30-31 this year, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, is participating in XVII EPP Congress held in Roma. The main subject matter of the Congress will be Citizens and Europe: Priorities for better future, it is planned to adopt a manifest on a roadmap for the European Union (EU). The Congress will also elect the new EPP President. The Latvian Prime Minister will participate in a debate on key challenges of the EPP in relation to Europes future: EU enlargement, debate on the Constitutional Treaty and explaining it to EU citizens, enhancement of competitiveness of the EU and human resources development. The event will be participated by Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as by Heads of government of Slovenia, Greece and Croatia, Borys Tarasyuk, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Helmut Kohl, former German Chancellor, W.Marten, EPP President, Antonio Lopez-Isturiz, EPP Secretary-General, H.G.Poetteringa and MPs of the European Parliament. During the Congress, on March 30, the EPP will be celebrating its 30th anniversary since approval of the statutes of the European People's Party on 8 July in Luxembourg.
