On Tuesday, March 28, Aigars KalvÄ«tis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, in Berlin will meet Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. During the meeting it is planned to discuss a wide range of issues, because this is the first meeting of KalvÄ«tis and Merkel after her election to the position of Chancellor of Germany. Both heads of government will discuss bilateral relations of Latvia and Germany, also focusing on issues of the European Union (EU) taking into account that during the first half of next year Germany will hold the EU Presidency. Also it is planned to discuss energy issues, which were among the central topics at the last weekâÀ™s meeting of leaders of the EU. KalvÄ«tis and Merkel will also exchange views on topical issues of foreign policy including the New Neighbourhood Policy, and discuss presidential elections in Belarus and parliamentary elections in Ukraine. Before the working meeting a press conference of the heads of government of Latvia and Germany will take place. The Prime Minister will return to Latvia on Wednesday, March 29.
