On Wednesday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m., in the Prime MinisterâÀ™s Hall (3rd floor of the Cabinet of Ministers), a press conference of Aigars KalvÄ«tis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, will take place on the European Council meeting that will be held on 23-24 March in Brussels. Traditionally, at spring European Councils issues concerning the Lisbon Strategy are discussed. Also this time it is planned to discuss implementation of the Lisbon Strategy, paying particular attention to promotion of employment and growth. Heads of state and government of the European Union (EU) will have to agree on future priorities: increasing investment in the area of knowledge and innovations; they will also discuss establishment of a European Technology Institute, using the potential of small and medium enterprises, increasing job opportunities particularly focusing on young people. There will be in-depth discussions on creating a new European Energy Policy in the context of the Green Paper on development of the Common EU Energy Policy that was recently published by the European Commission. Also discussed will be topical foreign policy issues. Prime Minister Aigars KalvÄ«tis will depart for Brussels on 22 March and will return to Latvia on 24 March.
