Today, February 15, in the State Chancellery, the working group for prepareation of guidelines of development of the policy planning system gathered for its second meeting. The Policy Coordination Department of the State Chancellery presented its proposals on the possible policy planning system and interconnection of various documents of the policy planning system.

There were discussions on the best way of linking national and regional planning levels, as well as ensuring balance between centralization and decentralization of the planning process.

The efficiency of individual planning documents such as guidelines and programme was discussed, to avoid overlapping and to enable optimal planning of development of all sectors.

The working group was established by the Order of the Prime Minister of 18 January with the purpose of assessing the current policy planning and coordination system and developing a policy planning document which would determine possible future lines of activity for improving this system.

The working group is headed by Una Klapkalne, Deputy Director of the State Chancellery in Policy Planning and Coordination Affairs. The working group includes a representative from the Prime MinisterâÀ™s Office, high-level officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Regional Development and Local Governments, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economics, as well as representatives of the academic community and nongovernmental institutions.

The first meeting of the working group took place on February 1, when the current policy planning system was assessed and most significant problems identified. The next meeting will be held on March 8.
