Today, January 19, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Michel Foucher, Ambassador of the French Republic to Latvia, who paid the Prime Minister a farewell visit. The Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for his significant work and personal contribution in deepening and broadening the relations between Latvia and France, and noted the excellent and active bilateral relations of both countries. Aigars Kalvītis stressed that Latvia highly appreciated the opportunity to organize the festival Etonnante Lettonie in France, and expressed confidence that in the next year in Rīga it will be possible to get better acquainted with French culture. The Prime Minister thanked for French support to Latvia as the place for organizing the next NATO Summit in 2006. Both sides discussed topical issues of the European Union (EU) including the future of the EU, the Financial Perspective, and further progress of the Constitutional Treaty. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the increasingly active economic cooperation and the extensive ties in education, science and culture.
