Latvia is very satisfied with the agreement that was reached. This agreement shows that the enlarged European Union (EU) after the problems experienced this year is able to adopt difficult and important decisions. Owing to the repeated and intensive consultations of the Prime Minister and the delegation of Latvia with the EU Presidency and other Member States, Latvia was able to achieve a significant increase in funding. Latvia managed to ensure that its arguments were taken into consideration. As a result, during the next seven years Latvia from EU funds will receive approximately 4.5 billion euro. The total funding for Latvia in 2007-2013 is 5.7 billion euro. This European Council showed that despite individual interests of each Member State solidarity exists in the EU.
