On October 22, during his working visit to Iceland, Aigars Kalvītis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Halldór Ásgrímsson, Prime Minister of Iceland. The meeting took place in the residence of the Prime Minister of Iceland, and businessmen of Iceland also participated. During the meeting, the main attention was paid to bilateral relations of Latvia and Iceland, particularly the economic cooperation of both countries. The Prime Minister and businessmen of Iceland showed great interest in economic development and dynamics of growth in Latvia, saying that the rapid development offers good opportunities for future cooperation. During the meeting, the increasing interest of businessmen of Iceland about Latvia was noted, as well as the fact that many businessmen already successfully operate in Latvia. Aigars Kalvītis noted the increasing amount of exports to Iceland, which is planned to be expanded even more. During the conversation, topical processes in the European Union (EU) were discussed, as well as issues of security policy. Today the Prime Minister will visit several construction objects to which Latvian companies supply building materials. In the afternoon and evening, in Reykjavik, several meetings of the Prime Ministers of the five Nordic Countries: Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark, and the three Baltic States will take place. Aigars Kalvītis will chair the meeting of the Prime Ministers of Nordic EU countries and Baltic States, during which topical issues of the EU will be addressed.
